Humpback whales sing the most in the Dominican Republic
We have always known that humpback whales feel particularly comfortable off the coast of Samaná. Scientists have also now confirmed that they sing there most often. The national authority for maritime affairs (Autoridad Nacional de Asuntos Marinos; ANAMAR) monitored the humpback whale songs off the coast of the Dominican Republic for six months and found that the humpback whales sang there on 166 days, or 90 percent of their stay. Many humpback whales usually sang at the same time. The humpback whales sang more songs and sang more consistently in the Dominican Republic than their fellow whales off the coasts of Guadelupe, Martinique or San Martin.
